The floating tongue adapter accessory (FTA) kit contains one of the following parts:
Tools needed: 9/16″ and 3/4″ wrenches (ratchet, socket, box, etc.)
STEP 1 Securely place the trailer tongue on a support, such as a ramp, step stool or jack, and remove top bar (1A to 1B) of the u-tongue as shown below.
STEP 2 Remove the FTA hardware from the plastic bag and group on the trailer tongue for easy availability (no picture).
STEP 3 Insert a 1/2″ diameter carriage bolt up through the square hole in the FTA plate, then into the tow bar hole of the tongue (3A). In order, stack a 1/2″ fender washer and a 1/2″ split washer on the 1/2” hex bolt shank. Then screw on the 1/2″ hex nut, finger tight (3B).
STEP 4 Insert a 3/8″ diameter carriage bolt up through the long slot in the FTA plate, then into the tongue’s 3/8″ diameter hole (4A). In order, stack a 3/8″ fender washer and a 3/8″ split washer on the 3/8” hex bolt shank. Then screw on the 3/8″ hex nut, finger tight (4B).
STEP 5 & 6 Using the appropriate wrench (3/4″ or 9/16″), tighten both hex nuts securely.
THE FTA MAY BE MOUNTED UNDERNEATH THE TONGUE, AS DESCRIBED HEREIN, OR ON TOP OF THE TONGUE WITH THE BOLTS DOWN. UNDERNEATH IS STRONGER, BUT ON TOP IS MORE ATTRACTIVE AND REDUCES PROBABILITY OF CUTS FROM BOLTS.
TOWED EQUIPMENT MAY HAVE U-TONGUE HOLES LESS THAN 5/8″ DIAMETER. USE OF A 3/4″ FTA IS RECOMMENDED.
DO NOT HITCH A CONVENTIONAL U-TONGUE ABOVE THE BASE PLATE! IT WILL HANG UP AND NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY.
Neither InnoTech Associates, Inc., InnoTech Associates – PMT5, LLC, any owner of these two companies, nor any officer of these two companies shall be responsible in any way for damage to equipment (such as the tow vehicle or the trailer) or for injury of any kind, including death due to the use of the floating tongue adapter in any manner.
